Getting New Dentures in Sydney: What to Expect from First Visit to Final Fit

If you're about to get dentures for the first time — or replace an old set that's seen better days — knowing what's ahead takes the anxiety out of the process. Step 1: The consultation

Your first appointment is a no-referral consultation at Engadine, Minto or Bossley Park. Chris examines your mouth, assesses your remaining teeth and gum health, and discusses what you want from your dentures — comfort, appearance, chewing ability. He'll explain your options (full, partial, acrylic, chrome, implant-retained) and give you a clear, written quote with no obligation.

Step 2: Impressions

Once you decide to go ahead, Chris takes precise impressions of your upper and lower gums using dental putty. These moulds capture every contour so the finished denture fits your mouth exactly — not a generic shape. For partials, he also records how your teeth bite together.

Step 3: Bite registration and measurements

Chris records your bite relationship — how your upper and lower jaws meet — and takes facial measurements to determine the correct tooth length and position so your new smile suits your face and restores your natural facial proportions.

Step 4: The try-in

Before anything is finalised, you get a 'try-in' — a wax version of your denture with the actual teeth set in place. You see the shade, shape and arrangement in your own mouth. This is your chance to approve the look, and Chris adjusts until you're completely happy. Nothing is processed until you sign off.

Step 5: Processing and fitting

Once approved, the denture is processed — the wax is replaced with hard acrylic, polished to a smooth finish, and fitted at your next appointment. Chris checks the fit, bite and comfort, and makes any immediate adjustments needed.

Step 6: Aftercare and adjustments

New dentures take a little getting used to. Chris schedules a review a week or two after fitting to ease any pressure spots and fine-tune the bite. These adjustments are complimentary — your comfort is the priority, not the calendar.

How long does the whole process take?

Typically 3–5 appointments over 2–4 weeks. Same-day repairs and relines are much faster. Chris will give you a realistic timeline at your first visit based on the complexity of your case.
